Why ASPIRE. Exists: The Story Behind The Brand

Four-panel collage of one athlete training in ASPIRE. gear: Muay Thai at a heavy bag, loading a barbell, after a 21 km run (Strava: 1h56m at 5:32/km), and lifting a dumbbell in the black ASPIRE pull-up print T-shirt.

I didn't start ASPIRE. with a business plan. I started it because I couldn't find a shirt that matched who I actually am.

I'm 19, based in Aalst, Belgium. On paper that's a student on the firefighter officer track and a volunteer firefighter. In practice it's also someone who trains kickboxing, BJJ, and Muay Thai most days of the week. Two identities that most brands treat as separate customers. I've never experienced them as separate.

OLD GYM SHIRTS

Before ASPIRE. existed, I trained in old high school gym shirts. Not because I liked them, because nothing else fit what I actually needed. Gym brands make gear for the gym. Fight brands make gear for the mat. Nobody was making anything for someone doing both in the same week, sometimes the same day.

I looked for it online first. Nothing came close. So I started designing my own.

THE FIRST SHIRT

The first ASPIRE. shirt wasn't built around any of this. It was a streetwear design, made before I'd figured out what the brand actually was. The quality wasn't where it needed to be, and honestly, neither was the idea. I pulled it from the store. That shirt is the reason ASPIRE. now works with a different supplier and a different standard for what's good enough to sell.

Around September 2025, ASPIRE. pivoted fully from streetwear to sportswear. Not a rebrand for the sake of one, a correction. The brand became what it should have been from the start: built for the hybrid athlete, not a general streetwear customer.

WHY IT'S STILL JUST ME

ASPIRE. is still one person. I design it, run the shop, film the content, and train in it myself, alongside school and firefighting duty. That's not a marketing angle, it's just the actual constraint I work inside. It also means every product decision gets tested the same way: would I wear this to sparring on Monday and mean it.

The gap I started with hasn't closed for most people training the way I do. Combat sports and the gym still get treated as two different wardrobes by almost every brand out there. That's still the whole reason ASPIRE. exists.
